The Dolphin Gold 9A team upped their record to 6-1-1 over the weekend by defeating the Dolphin Silver 12-2 on Friday night, Hawk Blue 4-3 in on a cold and sometimes snowy Saturday and Hawk Blue again on Sunday 9-8.
Friday's win was aided by a spectacular pitching performance turned in by Cody Boone along with the hot bats of Wyatt Henderson, who crushed a two-run homer and Jackson Jaeger who belted a bases loaded triple.
Other hot bats were swung by Brad Cooley, Kurt Campbell and Colby Ezell, who each contribute key hits knocking in several runs. Saturday's frigid win could be attributed to relief pitchers Cody Boone and Robbie Peachey who combined to strike out six batters and stranding numerous Hawk runners on base.
On Sunday's win, Jack Chapin belted a bases loaded triple to start off the second inning. Not to be outdone, Dustin Bean followed up with another triple scoring Chapin from third.
Later in the game, the defensive play of the year was turned in by second baseman Jack Chapin, who made an incredible backhanded diving catch of a Hawk line drive and catching the runner off 2nd to complete a double play.
The persistent Hawks threatened to tie the game with two outs and runners in scoring position in the bottom of the last inning, when third baseman Dustin Bean fielded a ground ball and made a rocket throw to first to preserve the win.
