After playing to a 4-4 tie two weeks ago, Dolphin Purple won the exciting rematch 6-5 Saturday May 3 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
Kelley Hema was the starting pitcher for Purple and began the game with 2 shutout innings and 4 strike outs, while throwing to Tristan Hyatt who was playing catcher for the 1st time. Purple scored 5 runs in the top of the 2nd on the strength of 2 RBI's for Hema and a double down the left field line by Matthew Pearson.
Kian McVicar came in for Purple in the top of the 3rd and pitched for the very 1st time and recorded 2 big strike outs. Jason Atwood came in at pitcher with the bases loaded and closed out the 3rd inning.. The score after 3 was Purple 5, Gold 2.
In the top of the 4th inning Kian McVicar scored what would be the winning run on another double down the line by Matthew Pearson. Dolphin Gold was not done fighting though as they came to the plate down 6-2 with time running out.
Atwood began the last inning with 2 strikes before an inside pitch nipped the batter, and he then walked the next 2. He fought back hard with the bases loaded and struck out the next batter on a full count.
After 2 more walks, Kelley Hema reentered the game ahead 6-4 with the bases loaded. Harrison Sedmak of Gold hit a scorching 1 hopper down the 1st base line that was knocked down by Drew Gilmore on a victory saving play.
He dove at 1st base with his glove stretched out and beat the runner for the 2nd out, and held Gold to just 1 run. With the score 6-5 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Hema earned his 5th strike out of the day to seal the win.
The game marked the 3rd win in a row for Purple against a team ranked ahead of them as they climbed into 4th place in their division.
