Despite losing both their games over the weekend, 9A Dolphin Silver found plenty of reasons to smile.
Coach Tim McLeod gathered his team together after Saturday's match against Dolphin Black to reinforce the positive plays that occurred during the game. Dolphin Silver lost 10-1, notwithstanding two innings of fantastic pitching by Weston Miller.
On Sunday, Dolphin Silver faced Patriot Navy at Ridgewood Park in Littleton. Reagan Clarke started the hitting with a triple, and made it home for the first run of the game, thanks to an RBI by Tyler McLeod. Dolphin Silver also played some terrific defense, with an especially beautiful play to end the third inning.
Patriot Navy hit the ball to left field, where Ben Kozan hustled to retrieve it; throwing it to cut off man, Reagan Clarke, who made a beautiful toss to third-baseman, Alec Byrne, who was able to tag the runner in time for the final out of the inning. In the fourth inning, Alec Byrne came through on offense, hitting the second triple of the afternoon, bringing home Weston Miller to score the team's second and final run of the day.
Dolphin Silver played tough and stayed close to the talented Patriot Navy team throughout the game, going into the fifth inning down by only one run. The final score was 7-2.
Dolphin Silver next faces Warrior Scarlet Saturday, May 10, at 3 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
