Rhonda's Community News Blog
My HOA is just North of Arapahoe Road at Jordan Road. We have seen alot of changes in the area. Our HOA was established in 1959. The Valley Country Club was about the only other thing out here then. Now we are in the City of Centennial and the other side of Jordan Road is in the City of Aurora. Both cities and even Arapahoe County have many new proposed developments near us. As you may have heard, Centennial is going to ask the voters to consider making Centennial a Home Rule city. If the voters say 'yes' this will give our city many positive opportunities to improve how we operate our city. So, in November, voters will be asked to elect 9 to 21 Charter Commission Members. This Commission (if elected) will have 120 days to write a 'charter' for the city. This 'charter' will be the framework for how the city will operate. In my opinion, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of the Charter Commission, so that is why you will see my name on the ballot this November. Several of my friends who are involved in the community will also be on the ballot for the Charter Commission this year. When their names have been confirmed to be on the ballot, I will share that info with you on a future posting. There are lots of important local elections on this year's November ballot. I hope each voter will make a point of being an informed voter before marking your ballot this year.

I have received several questions regarding special district election ballots. Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, 2008, is special district election day. This posting has info regarding the South Metro fire district election. You may have more than one special district election.
South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) has two ballot drop off locations. One is at their attorney's office (Grimshaw & Harring) downtown at 1700 Lincoln Street, suite 3800. The other ballot drop off location is at the SMFR Headquarters building at 9195 E Mineral Avenue (between Chester and Yosemite and between Dry Creek and County Line Roads). Your ballot must be received no later than 7pm tomorrow, May 6, 2008. Both offices will be open from 7am to 7pm to accept your ballot. Their ballot information is available at
www.southmetro.org
. Please note that will not be an opportunity to 'walk in and vote' as in previous years. Please bring the mail ballot package that was recently mailed to you if you are an active registered voter.
Please note than you must return the appropriate ballot to the appropriate district or your ballot will not be counted.
It is my understanding that one person can bring up to 5 sealed ballots, from their own home, to the appropriate ballot drop off location.
Please make sure to seal your ballot in the envelope that was provided and sign the appropriate line on the outside of the envelope or your vote may not be counted.
Thank you for participating in your local elections!
