What are the biggest issues facing your constituency now: Getting past the habit of selecting unacceptable candidates for office. The fact that unacceptable candidates are generally put forth at each election has provided a reason to run for office.

Reason to Run

Spencer Swalm, who is our current representative in Colorado House District 37, inspired me to become a candidate for that seat when he refused to honor the pledge he made to the Colorado Union of Taxpayers to keep the net taxes from increasing ( http://www.coloradotaxpayer.org/cut-pledge-signers.htm). That same organization rated him on that issue as an abysmal failure with a score of 40.74 ( http://www.coloradotaxpayer.org/new/2008CUTratings1.pdf).

He also voted to put the amendment O referendum on the ballot. That referendum issue has as its purpose, to interfere dramatically with the people's right to petition.

Such actions as these, as well as others, indicate that the Republican incumbent has a general lack of understanding as to his role under the Constitution and a limited commitment to representing the interest of the people in his district.

Diana Holland is also running as a challenger to Swalm for his second bid. She also has made it clear that the limitations of the Constitution are not likely to apply to her either as she, like most politicians, has her own list of programs to impose on us "for our own good", at our expense of course.

The Lesser Of Two Evils

Faced with this unacceptable choice I made the determination to change the routine dynamic in American politics. The routine is one in which electors are generally faced with two unacceptable choices. The prevailing argument to justify voting for one of these two unacceptable choices is to vote for the lesser of two evils. This argument sidesteps the responsibility we all have in searching diligently for wise leaders who will abide by our highest law, the Constitution. In reality, a choice of two evils is no choice at all.

Taking the Lesser Evil Out Of The Equation

While the Democratic candidate is likely to honor her pledge to violate the Constitution, the Republican has already demonstrated that he will if he believes he can justify it. But he continues to make the promises that he will follow principles of good government. For this promise, Republicans may view the incumbent as the lesser of two evils. So I am making the decision easier by taking the lesser of two evils out of the equation.

As this house district is generally closely contested between the Democrats and the Republicans, with the Republicans enjoying a slight advantage, a conservative third candidate will draw away between 3%-5% of the votes from the Republican candidate even if he dies before election day. The incumbent has already lost and he doesn't even know it. No amount of money in campaign contributions used for mailing literature and buying bus shelter ads will change it one bit.

If you are a Republican who relies on the lesser of two evils argument to decide who to vote for, the decision is now easier. You may continue to vote for your political brand name and permit the Democrat to assume office who may be counted on to keep her promises to expand government and spend more money and raise more taxes or you can truly make a principled decision to support a Constitutionalist who will do all he can to force government to obey the law.

You now have a real choice to make. May you choose wisely. As I have worked to give you a true choice, it is only fair that you know more about me.

I am the only candidate for Colorado House District 37 willing to tell you...

...that our country is bankrupt and that the Republican and Democrat parties continue to contribute to this bankruptcy, and that Federal Mandates will eventually bankrupt both our state and counties.

...that Colorado and its counties have essentially become provinces of the federal government resulting in a loss of the sovereignty which our Founders intended for each state.

...that the evils of Colorado's socialism must be reversed over the objections of Colorado's Republican and Democrat parties.

...that Coloradoans deserve relief from the devastating affects of illegal immigration, unfair trade agreements (misnamed "free trade agreements"), federal monetary policy, and the dangers of rampant identity theft promoted by governmental invasion of our privacy and other rights.

...that any true and long lasting solution to any political question must be supported collectively on the local and state levels to be effective, and if the public at large refuses to diligently demand drastic changes and a return to our constitutional law, our country is destined to undergo dramatic turmoil and unrest and the fate of the inhabitants of our country will rest in the balance of God's judgment.

...that the people of Colorado need to hear that governmental issues on all levels are issues affecting our personal freedom:

·Freedom from excessive taxation

·Freedom from artificial and manipulated shortages of food, fuel and energy

·Freedom to enjoy the fruits of one's labor by returning to a gold and silver standard

·Freedom from forced compliance with unlimited dictates of unlawful statutes

Some say that most of many these issues are only national issues. Such a statement could not be further from the truth. Unless county commissioners, state legislatures and governors of each state begin to take responsibility to independently and truthfully address these issues and demand accountability from our union government and its "public servants", nothing will ever change in spite of the constant political promises of change.

Now is the time to say that all is not well in Colorado, and it really is time for a change.

Come join with me in promoting a return to a truly Constitutional government in the traditions of our Founding Fathers. The question remains, will we as a people abide by our Constitution or aid in its demise? Your vote for me could swing the voice of the people to a long over due beginning of the restoration of this proper form of government in our county, state, and country.

For our liberty,

Brian Olds
Candidate, Colorado House District 37
