Members of the Interact Club of the Brighton Charter School recently donated $750 to the Denver Tech Center (DTC) Rotary Club of Englewood to purchase 15 bio-sand water filters that provide safe water for families in the Dominican Republic. One $50 filter will provide clean water for a family of four for 50 years. The students learned about the DTC project at a Rotary District 5450 seminar last September. One of Rotary International's major initiatives is providing clean drinking water throughout the world.
Through fund-raising activities that included valuable assistance at several local dog shows, the club's 20 members not only funded the water filters but also donated to AlmostHome, a Brighton shelter for homeless families, and to the drama department at their school.
Interact is a service club for young people ages 14-18 created in 1962 by Rotary International and established in more than 100 countries. The youth clubs are self-governing and self-supporting, giving Interactors a chance to develop leadership skills while learning the value of good teamwork and community service. The Interact Club of the Brighton Charter School is sponsored by
Sheri Beattie, DVM, past president of the Brighton Early Rotary Club.
Taimi Clark is the club's advisor.
The DTC Rotary Cluib meets on Tuesdays at noon at the Glenmoor Country Club, East Belleview Avenue and South University Boulevard. For membership information visit the
