Ya Ya Yoga offers classes for every lifestyle
Contributed by: Sally Carleton on 1/30/2008

Ya Ya Yoga, a favorite in the southeast metro area, has re-opened in its new, larger location at 6818 S. Dallas Way in Greenwood Village.

The new 3,000 square foot location features two studios and one of the widest selections of class times and yoga styles available in the Denver area. Partners Denise Cook, Sally Carleton and Leslie Munday have created a beautiful, welcoming space where people of all ages and abilities can feel comfortable and safe in starting or expanding their yoga practices.

Ya Ya offers a diverse schedule throughout the day including early and mid-morning, noon, after work and evening. Classes range from vigorous vinyasa, or flow, to slower paced gentle styles and meditation. Pre- and post-natal classes are planned and the popular "Mommy and Me" series begins in February. Ya Ya also will offer special classes tailored for children and for teens. A free class is scheduled each Sunday afternoon to allow students to try different yoga styles and teachers.

"There is a yoga style to suit everyone," said Cook, a veteran instructor. "We encourage students to try different styles to find the one they like best. At Ya Ya we are extremely fortunate to have a group of talented, experienced teachers who are dedicated to helping our students improve their health and wellbeing through the practice of yoga." Every Ya Ya instructor has at least 200 hours of yoga teacher education. Many have substantially more and bring the studio the benefit of many years of experience.

Yoga styles offered at Ya Ya include power, vinyasa, Iyengar, Anusara, Jivamukti, Kundalini and Universal.

The studio's corporate program offers special rates to companies interested in helping their employees to increase productivity and reduce stress.

Stress has been declared a workplace hazard by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and according to the American Psychological Association, 75 to 90% of doctor visits are for stress related ailments and complaints. Stress is also linked to the six leading causes of death - heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide.

"Yoga provides an invaluable mind/body connection that is key to helping us better manage stress and improve our health," Cook said. A study conducted by Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and the Yoga Research Society demonstrated that levels of cortisol, often called the "stress hormone," drop significantly beginning with the very first yoga class.

Stress relief is far from yoga's only benefit. Practicing yoga also has been demonstrated to improve strength, flexibility, breathing, coordination and posture while also increasing concentration and focus.

Ya Ya is located just south of I-25 and Arapahoe Road. Turn south on Clinton St. Take a left at 3 Margaritas. We're next to Salon Fabu.
