Captain Arthur D. Yaich
Captain Arthur D. Yaich died on January 13, 1951 in Kyushu, Japan. He died as a result of injuries incurred when the landing gear of his C-46 collapsed and his plane crashed into another grounded transport plane.
"Art" flew the "Hump" from India to china during WWII. He returned to civilian life in 1947 and attended the University of Denver. He re-entered the Air Force and was at Lowry Air Force Base for a firefighting course. October 1, 1949 he was sent to Naha Air Base, Okinawa as a fire chief. When the Korean conflict broke out he was again pressed into service as a transport pilot.
Captain Yaich was survived by his wife Helen, and his infant son Steve, whom he had never seen.
Art was buried with full military honors in the military section of Crown Hill Cemetery. He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.
