Disinfect with a PESTICIDE?!
Contributed by: Kristy Leikam on 3/24/2006

Dear Parents,

I was watching the 7 NEWS story at 5 p.m on 3/21/06 on Clorox Disinfecting wipes in schools...in disbelief... Does anyone educate themselves as responsible consumers to READ THE LABELS on these and other harsh and harmful chemicals we are putting in our schools!?

Chlorine Bleach is a registered pesticide according to the EPA,
right on the back of the bottle of chlorine bleach used in YOUR home, the precautionary statement reads and I quote:"HAZARDOUS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS" This is why consumers SHOULD educate themselves and find a healthier and SAFER alternative... I have and my 13 year olds asthma has cleared up and we have not had to fill an RX for his proventil inhaler for almost ONE YEAR, since we have cleared our home of ALL household cleaners that contain chlorine bleach and or harsh and harmful chemicals, we switched to a safer and healthier alternative...

Just a suggestion for any of us that are concerned about what our children inhale and put into their mouths at school...even the surfaces they eat off of!

Instead of pointing the finger at everyone else about our childrens safety at school and other places, let's turn the finger around and point it at ourselves, meaning, take a look at what "REGISTERED PESTICIDES" YOU as parents have in your home...
Chlorine Bleach, "aerosol spray disenfectants", just to name a few!

Check the bottle of another well known "aerosol spray disenfectant" , precautionary statement says:HAZARDOUS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS
Come on, we, as parents, need to be educated consumers on the DANGERS of these common household products... 99% of the children in North America have been exposed to chlorine bleach since infancy...
For example: The State Health Dept. RECOMMENDS, that daycares and schools use a "bleach water" solution to disinfect the toys, eating areas, EVEN wash dishes in CHLORINE BLEACH! This is NOT a requirement, BUT it is VERY CHEAP, there are SAFER alternatives out there, approved by the EPA!

In turn, the children , inhale, ingest and play around this extremely TOXIC and HARMFUL substance...

SO WHAT DO WE DO to protect our kids and ourselves?!
There is a safer alternative...one that IS APPROVED BY THE EPA for use in daycares, schools EVEN hospitals, one that won't poison our children, remember, this is not an example of ACUTE chemical poisoning, rather a CHRONIC exposure to chemicals that CAN BE AVOIDED...let us not blame others for not KNOWING the risks, let us educate them!

I "enjoyed" this artical. It really gets the point out in how important it is for us to use safer products in our lives.
