Most Americans replace their cell phone every 18 to 24 months. That means there are a lot of old cell phones laying around collecting dust! But the staff and students at Cherry Creek C.A.R.E. and P.R.E.P., the district's alternative middle and high schools, can put your old phone to good use. They're collecting used cell phones to raise money for continuing education.
"We learned that we could earn money for every old cell phone we collected," said P.R.E.P. math teacher
Heather Shulman. "So we decided to give people an easy way to get rid of their old phones, and help kids continue their education at the same time."
Money raised through the cell phone project will provide scholarship support for P.R.E.P. graduates who've been accepted to post-secondary educational institutions, including vocational colleges and two and four-year colleges and universities.
"It's just a great feeling to know that we can continue to support the educational hopes and dreams of our students as they pursue post-secondary education," said principal
Cindy Bailey.
Staff and students have set up collection boxes at the following locations:
- C.A.R.E. and P.R.E.P., 14076 E. Briarwood Avenue in Centennial
- Student Achievement Resource Center, 14188 E. Briarwood Avenue in Centennial
- Educational Services Center, 4700 South Yosemite in Greenwood Village.
If you have an old phone that is functional with intact housing you'd like to donate, just drop it off or call Heather Shulman at 720-886-7200.
