The Chapel at Saint Malo is built on a granite outcropping with Mount Meeker in the background.Monsignor Joseph Bosetti saw a meteor land near this spot in 1916. When he saw the beauty of the area and the granite outcropping, he decided to build his church upon this rock.
For the next 20 years he worked on obtaining the funding and he also battled the Colorado Department of Highways. They wanted to blast away this rock to widen the road through here. The church was finally dedicated in 1936.
In 1993, Pope John Paul II visited the Chapel during his visit to Denver for the World Youth Day conference. He bestowed his blessing upon this chapel.
To get to Camp Saint Malo, Turn left to highway 7 just west of Lyons, Colorado. Camp Saint Malo is about 12 miles south of Estes Park and near Allenspark.
I have photos of Saint Malo on display during the Month of August at the Buck Community Recreation Center just east of Downtown Littleton. The address is 2004 W. Powers Ave. Littleton, CO 80120.
