Oh no, the Stock Show is back....
Contributed by: Barry Stevens on 1/16/2008

It is interesting to note some Stock Show traditions/history now that we are at that time of year again.

One of the first that comes to mind is the numbing cold. While we do not have any control over the weather, it is historical that with very few exceptions, we will experience below zero temperatures during the Stock Show hence the term "Stock Show Weather " by the Colorado old timers.

Secondly, I can recall that during the 1950s and 60s the Mayor's and Governor's pled with the citizens of the Metro Area to keep their Christmas lights on their houses until the end of the Stock Show in recognition of the visiting Cowboys, Farmers , Ranchers and Stock Show visitors who did not have time to enjoy the holidays as they were preparing for the Stock Show. (Not lost was the boost in tourism and income.)

However those pleas have been continued by many Colorado Citizens (to the consternation to various HOA'S who demand that decorations come down within two weeks of the holiday's.) Did I fail to mention that the City of Denver is true to their word by keeping the Christmas lights on at the City and County Building thru each and every Stock Show? For those newcomers, this is known as a Colorado Tradition.
