Continuing a long-standing tradition of excellence in Destination Imagination (DI) competition, Willow Creek Elementary School in Centennial achieved the impressive feat of producing two state champion teams at the Colorado Destination Imagination State Tournament held April26 at Dakota Ridge High School.
DI is an international creative problem solving competition for students from Kindergarten through the university level. Teams of up to seven students compete in one of six categories. The top finishers at the Regional level are invited to statewide competition and from there the winners advance to Global Finals.
The Willow Creek 5th grade teams, The Pink Flamingos and The Masterminds will be traveling to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in late May to compete with teams from all over the US as well as Latin America, Europe and Asia.
According to
Ryan Brook, a member of the Masterminds team which competed at Global Finals in 2007, "It is awesome meeting kids from all over, trading pins with them and being with your friends in Tennessee".
The Pink Flamingos team members are
Carrie Zimmerman,
Stav and Lee Setty,
Connor Andersen,
Patrick Hernandez,
Quinn Evans and
Andrew Stratford. They are coached by
Janet Hernandez and
Louise Stratford. The Masterminds include
