Girl Scouts get their "horse fix" at Classic Show

"I have to admit that I'm horse crazy," said Hannah. "I'm going through a huge horse phase in my life and I just don't know when it will be over. I like everything about horses - the way they look, the way they feel. I even like the way they smell. They're just so much fun to be around. In fact, yes it's true, I want to be a vet when I grow up!"

Hannah Rosenfield, 9, a Juliette Girl Scout from Centennial, was one of 250 Girl Scouts who attended the Horse Fan Badge Event at the 32nd annual Colorado Classic Horse Show on April 26 at the National Western Events Center in Denver.

Horse crazy girls learned about horse health, horse care and the horse show industry by watching the majestic Arabian, Morgan and Saddlebred horses compete in the show and later attending the two-hour hands-on clinic.
During the clinic, Girl Scouts rotated through eleven educational stations that included topics such as horse behavior, riding equipment and clothing, grooming, safety, horse shoeing, adopting wild mustangs, famous horses, equine careers and barn tours. At the eleventh station, women equine veterinary students at Colorado State University taught girls about horse health and dietary needs. After the event, girls were able to continue their education with a special take-home notebook filled with horse facts and fun activities. In a special prize drawing, Girl Scouts even won free riding lessons.

Proceeds from the 32nd annual Colorado Classic Horse Show benefit Girl Scouts of Colorado.
