The DTC Rotary Club has selected Giau Pho Interact Student of the Month and recognized Peter Hughes as its 24th Paul Harris Fellow.
Giau Pho, secretary of the Thomas Jefferson High School Interact Club, is an active community service volunteer, donating her time and talents to such varied organizations as the Denver Public Library, the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, and the South Platte Clean-Up Program. She is a tutor for middle school students through the Denver Relay Program at Merrill Middle School.
She also has assisted with a number of Interact events, and most recently donated her time to the DTC Rotary Club’s annual "For the Love of Children" Auction Gala. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Asian Pacific Leadership Program, and a school representative on the Student Council. Additionally, she is taking advanced placement courses in calculus, literature, US history and chemistry. Giau has already been accepted into CU Denver's nursing program, which she'll begin in the fall of 2006.
Interact is a service club for young people ages 14-18 created in 1962 by Rotary International and established in more than 100 countries. The youth clubs are self-governing and self-supporting giving Interactors a chance to develop leadership skills while learning the value of good teamwork. DTC Rotary sponsors for the Thomas Jefferson club are Sherry Hanson, Rob Packard and Dana Arell. Danny Showers is the Interact Club’s advisor.
Peter Hughes, Corporate Counsel for CH2MHill and a Villager area resident, was honored for his contributions to the Rotary Annual Programs Fund. Hughes is the 24th Paul Harris Fellow in the DTC Rotary Club.
