Centennial voters elect new mayor, council members


(Centennial, COLO)Centennial voters have elected a new Mayor and Council Members. The Mayor and Council terms are four years. The unofficial election results for the City of Centennial are:

Cathy Noon, Mayor

Cathy Noon is the Founder and Chair of the Centennial Council of Neighborhoods (CenCON). In 2007-08, Noon served as Chair of the Home Rule Charter Commission, a 21- member group elected to write Centennial's Home Rule Charter. In Centennial's early years, Noon chaired the 2001 committee created to pass three initiatives to fund the new city, served on the task force to write Centennial's first Comprehensive Plan, and is now a member of the advisory team rewriting Centennial's Land Development Code and Zoning. She is the Arapahoe County Council on Aging representative to the Denver Regional Council of Governments Advisory Committee on Aging. She has served on numerous committees and special district boards in Centennial and Arapahoe County in the last eight years. Noon defeated Todd Miller, Mike Weber and Greg Schoenfeld.

Rick Dindinger Council Member, District 1

Incumbent Rick Dindinger ran unopposed.

Ron Phelps, Council Member, District 1

Ron Phelps ran against six other candidates for a two-year term in District 1 to fill the vacated seat of Betty Ann Hamilton. The unofficially results show he defeated Vorry Moon, who was a Council Member from 2004-2008. Phelps serves on several community committees; Arapahoe County Budget, City Open Space, Parks & Trails Advisory Committee, and the City Land Use sub-committee guiding the redevelopment plan for the Southglenn neighborhood.

Sue Bosier, Council Member, District 2

Sue Bosier is the incumbent for this seat on City Council and defeated Scott Watters.

Rebecca McClellan, Council Member, District 3

Rebecca McClellan the incumbent, won the race against Cindy Combs.

Ron Weidmann, Council Member, District 4

Incumbent Ron Weidmann was unopposed.

Phelps will be sworn into office at the Council meeting on December 7, 2009. All other officials will be sworn in January 11, 2010.

Election results are still unofficial, and are expected to be certified by Arapahoe County in the coming days.
