MEET YOUR CANDIDATE Q & A

My name: Gregory Kinney MPH

Office I'm running for: County Coroner of Arapahoe County

Age: 41

My family: Wife Lisa anddaughter Zita (2 years old)

What I do: I'm a data manager and statistical analyst forthe University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. I work in clinical research trying tounderstandwhy some people getcoronary heart disease and some don't.

My favorite place in town to hang out: Well it used to be Second Creek raceway but they closed that unfortunately so I'm goingwith picnicking in City Parkwith my daughter (not that she wouldn't have loved Second Creek as well)!

What I like most about living here: The sense of community in my neighborhood.

My interests and hobbies: Motorcycle racing and touring, Jules Verne and his era, national parks, camping, aikido and fencing.

What is my favorite thing to cook ?: Tandoori chicken , though my wife makes our garam masala.

People who inspired me (and how): JulesVerne for his creativity and imagination, Rosalind Franklin for doing the hard work that resulted in our knowledge of the structure of DNA, Maria Curie for excellence in research and incredible perseverance, Kenny Roberts for bringing inspiration and magic to his sport, Isambard Kingdom Brunel for pursuing impossible goals and achieving them, and my father for demanding intellectual honesty and excellence from me.

How I have contributed to the community: I try to be available to my friends and neighbors for any help that they need whenever they need it. I try to make environmentally sound decisions about how my family and I live. I pursue research that I feel will have a positive impact on the lives of people.

What are the biggest issues facing Arapahoe County now: I think that Arapahoe county has an awful lot going for it including a diverse population, a great sense of community and enormous growth potential. There are, of course, issues specific to local areas of the county that need to be addressed to the satisfaction of the citizens of those areas. Take the proposed superslab to our east; the voice of the people who would be effected by it must not bedrowned outin the issues effecting the more populated areas 60 miles closer to the mountains. The same goes for local schools and public services of course; we as citizens of Arapahoe county must take the time to be engaged in the business of building and supporting our communities. To that end I'll say that community involvement isone of the biggest issuesfacing us now. Arapahoe county is already a great place to live and workbut we must exercise our duty as citizens and remain engaged all year round.
