Gale Christy asked that I post this letter on his behalf:
Dear Editor,
The purpose of this letter is to offer a word of support for the proposed Centennial City Charter. Although I do not live in Centennial, I have lived in the south suburban area for over 35 years, serving as City Manager in Littleton from 1972 to 1987, and am currently on the City Council in Columbine Valley.
I have watched with interest the incorporation of the City of Centennial, the development and experience of its good and conscientious leaders, and the progress of the Home Rule Charter Commission. It is apparent to me that home rule is a very timely and appropriate step for the Centennial community. The leadership provided by the Mayor and Council and the 21 members of the Charter Commission shows that Centennial is ready to step beyond statutory control of the state and establish its own constitution or City Charter.
The proposed Charter consists of the best parts of many charters in place throughout Colorado. The Charter Commission very wisely incorporated elements of charters which have proven to be successful in other cities for many years. I urge the Centennial electorate to take this next important step in charting its own course in local governance and vote YES for its new City Charter.
Respectfully,
Gale Christy
