South Suburban Parks and Recreation will host two FREE basketball activities on Sunday, January 6 at Buck Recreation Center, 2004 W. Powers Ave., Littleton. Boys and girls, ages 7-14, should arrive at 9 am to register for The Denver Nuggets Basketball Skills Challenge which starts at 9:30 am. A copy of the participant's birth certificate is required for registration. All participants in this free event will have the opportunity to advance to the sectional competition and, if successful, onto the statewide event at a Denver Nuggets game in the Pepsi Center.
Following the Nuggets Challenge, the Littleton Elks will sponsor a FREE Hoop Shoot for ages 8-13. Contestants, in three age categories: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13, will shoot 25 free throws. Top shooters receive awards and proceed to district, state and regional competition. From the nearly three million national participants, six national champions are named, one boy and one girl in each of the age categories. These winners win a FREE trip to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Denver Nuggets Basketball Skills Challenge is presented in partnership with Colorado Parks and Recreation Association and the Hoop Shoot is presented in partnership with Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
