Blog Entry 32 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Does a new year really mean a new you?
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 1/3/2007

I'd like to think so, but then again, I can get pretty optimistic about the future. Every year, I join the millions of people who attempt to fulfill their New Year's resolutions. My resolution last year was to lose weight, budget my money better and go to church more.

Well, my body weight steadily fluctuated during 2006, I pretty much lived way over my means and I went to church about 10 times. But, I got to spend lots of time with my friends and family, see new places in Colorado and finally know what it's like to deal with I-25 and DTC traffic. It's an accomplishment, really, because now I know I can deal with anything.

I'm going to rekindle those goals once again in 2007. Lose five pounds, start taking at least $20 out of my paycheck to put in my savings and attend church at least twice a month. Baby steps, baby steps.

I've read blogs from several of you stating that we put too much emphasis on resolutions and restricting ourselves from enjoying the new year. I'll agree; sometimes the pressure to follow-through with those goals can be stressful physically and emotionally.

Nonetheless, I'm looking to the up side of things and hoping this would motivate me to live a healthier life. Not necessarily try to create a new me, but a better me. Sounds like something Tony Robbins would say, but it's a philosophy that I'm embracing.

So, here's to a happy, hopeful and healthy 2007. If you have any New Year's goals, tips or gripes, share them with me with your own blog entry or with a comment below.

And don't forget to read James Syring's blog about just enjoying the new year and Karin Malchow's blog listing what the top ten resolutions should be.

Ha! I didn't even know I made it on his list until your comment, Karin. I've been bothering him for months about it. And spent quite a few dollars sending chocolates to his mother.
