Denver’s top youth films to be shown at festival

The best work from Denver's aspiring filmmakers will be coming soon to the King Center at CU Denver! The films will be shown as part of the ninth annual Denver Academy Film Festival for Youth (DAFFY), which provides local students with the opportunity to express themselves through the medium of film.

This free event will be held at the King Center at CU Denver on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

"At Denver Academy we believe in encouraging all students to find creative outlets and engaging ways of learning. From this belief we created DAFFY as a way for Colorado students to showcase their inner talent and to share their films with the larger Denver community," said Dan Loan, Executive Director of DAFFY. "For many students DAFFY is the first film festival that they enter, and it opens the doors of the filmmaking world to them."

More than 120 short films were submitted to this year's competition from students across the metro-area, and the winning films are selected by a panel of judges from the Colorado Film School. This year's categories include drama, comedy, public service or commercial announcement, documentary, experimental, action-adventure, horror, science-fiction, and animation.

The competition is open to students between the seventh and 12th grades. Students may use adults as advisors and as acting talent on productions but may not use adults to function in any other capacity.

Denver Academy is the only coed, 1st through 12th grade independent school in the Denver metro area dedicated to teaching students with learning differences and unique learning profiles. Learn more about the school at www.denveracademy.org.
