Visual Art meets the Spoken Wordin
Braided Lives Performance April 29 - One Night Only Live
Event and Reception
It isn't often that
the written word and visual art unite to create an unforgettable
performance, but that's exactly what the Tennyson Gallery is
offering to Denver this April.A nationally showcased performance,
Braided Lives: A Collaboration Between Artists and
Poets happens in Denver one night only, Apr. 29.
Braided Lives embodies creative communication across art
forms, and, when intentional, links people together. Lives
intertwine in the name of Expression across time, distance, and art
forms. Visual Artists, Writers, and the Audience weave individual
and collective experiences, making each
Braided Lives performance a unique event.
Denver's best new
art destination, Tennyson Gallery, will have original art and
writings on display beginning April 18 for two weeks prior to the
performance. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to rub elbows
with nationally recognized artists and poets at the VIP reception
from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. before the performance begins at 7 p.m.
Braided Lives matches nationally-known artists with
prize-winning poets across the States, including Hawaii, through
the internet, telephone conversations, and occasionally studio
visits. Writers receive digital images of their partner's newly
created work, and the writer composes a poetic response. On the
evening of the event, the artwork is displayed while writers
perform spoken word art. Artists respond directly to the poetry and
share the original inspiration for the art.
Taos hosted the
original
Braided Lives. In October, 2005, it was hosted by the
SomArtsCulturalCenter in San Francisco. This year's tour of
Braided Lives is hosted by Tennyson Gallery in April, then
journeying south, opening the Taos Spring Arts Festival. The 2006
show includes writers from as far away as Hawaii, though boasts
several Colorado writers and artists among the ranks. This year's
local writers include Andrea L. Watson, one of the co-founders of
the event; Denver poet and university professor, Dr. Lara Narcisi;
Littleton educator and poet Linda K. Arnold; and Colorado residents
Shirley Sullivan, Jim Ciletti, and Kathleen Cain. Colorado artists
are well represented in 2006, including, Pueblo portraitist, Teresa
Vito, and Denver fine art photographer, Tony Cochran.
All of the artwork
and books of poetry will be available for purchase during the two
week gallery exhibition and during the live event. Space is
limited, so interested parties should contact Tennyson Gallery at
303-433-3274 to reserve their space. Tickets are ten dollars for
the performance and an additional ten dollars for the VIP
Reception.
