HubCap: An adventurous lot
Contributed by: Brendan Leonard/YourHub.com   on 11/27/2006

On the tail end of my Thanksgiving trip to Moab, we decided to spend an afternoon climbing the sandstone wall that borders Potash Road heading southwest from town.

Since:

1) I am not a very good climber
2) We didn't have a guide to the area and just picked a route that looked easy
3) No one else wanted to go first,

there are small pieces of my fingernails, skin, blood supply, and pride hanging on the route pictured at right. But, I made it up, so I also left a small piece of fear up there. I am slowly learning to control the sweating, hyperventilation and shaking that accompanies climbing. I also don't openly weep or yell for my mom quite as much as I used to.

What's your adventure? I imagine many of us braved the Black Friday shopping crowds, a majority without wearing any sort of riot gear. That's something I don't have the constitution for.

You don't have to be rushing into a burning building to capture the sense of adventure. Sometimes it's as simple as riding the light rail for the first time after a lifetime of relying on an automobile. Share your story. A few of our bloggers already have.

Bill Boucher, of Brighton, once spent a day learning to ski, and another learning to snowboard. He covers both here. Both seemed to be near-death experiences.

Karin Malchow, of Lone Tree, talks about her sense of adventure in the kitchen, and how she's eaten many species of insects. Blech.

Barbara Neff shares a tale of the adventures of walking the dogs in Castle Pines Village, where elk are sometimes spotted hunting Thanksgiving turkey.
