Citizen Police Academy Graduation

December 5, 11 of our citizens/neighbors graduated from the Commerce City Citizen Police Academy. The event took place at the new Commerce City government center. Mayor Natale was there and congratulated the class of graduates.

Graduates:

Ken Agee, Camilla Bradford, Herman DeVries, Lori Fielding, Mike Fornili, Ron Girard, Tami Hoffman, Rebecca Scanga, Venise Sletten, Heather Voegele, Gene Washburn

These citizens (your neighbors!) spent 12 weeks learning everything about our city police department. Ride-Alongs, Crime Scene Investigations, Police car driving course, Police shooting range, the 911 Dispatch center, I could on an on as there was so much more!

I am sure that all the graduates and myself would agree that this was a great outreach to the community. I guess all of us had our preconceived ideas of what really goes on in the Police Department and how they do their jobs when we first began the class, but when the class ended, we all had a better understanding of what OUR Commerce City police department does for us. There would be no way that I could do anything close to what OUR officers do on a daily basis. We should all be proud of OUR city and the men and women who serve in the Police Department who protect it.

Major thanks should go to Police Chief Charles Baker and Sgt. Joe Sandoval, without them, the class would not have been so successful. This was a fantastic outreach to our community!

I would also like to name some of the Police department members that were are instructors that provided excellent training. These were more than just Police Department employees, but highly trained and skilled individuals that our city should be very proud of:

Commander Dennis Moon, Commander Larry Woog, Commander Rose Sibley, Lieutenant Dave Cubbage, Lieutenant Chuck Saunier, Lieutenant Wayne Granger, Sergeant Dave Bores, Sergeant Rick Anderson, Sergeant Rob McCoy, Detective Bogdan Georgescu, Detective Dan McCoy.

The next class should be in the spring. Call the Police Department to get your name on the list now. It is only 1 night a week, and it is free. I can promise you that it will be great, and thatyou have nothing to loose!
