The Board of Directors for ACCESS Housing is proud to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Virginia A. Longoria. Virginia brings an extensive and respected history in building non-profit organizations across Colorado.
For many years she served as a mayoral appointee under Mayors Wellington E. Webb and Federico Pena on the Denver Board of Adjustments for Zoning Appeals and the Neighborhood Health Program, Inc. Board of Directors.
She is known best for the time she spent revitalizing the Santa Fe Drive corridor in Denver and for launching the annual Cinco de Mayo Festival. Through the Colorado Foundation for Families and Children, she directed the Colorado Family Resource Network and more recently led the restoration of the former Sacred Heart School building on behalf of the Archdiocese of Denver's Hispanic Ministry. Virginia authored a workbook titled, On Solid Ground Family Support through Community Economic Development. She has served on many boards including the National Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
"We're pleased to have Ms. Longoria join us in our efforts to help families that are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, regain independence and self-sufficiency" said Marc Trost, ACCESS Housing Board President. Virginia's significant experience, dynamic enthusiasm and already proven dedication to ACCESS' mission makes her a very key asset to our organization. We are confident that with her expertise and guidance, ACCESS Housing, Inc. will continue to provide the highest level of service to the families and communities we serve."
Founded in 1983, ACCESS Housing provides a continuum of care for families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. ACCESS Housing was established by a group of individuals in Adams County as a response to the increase in homelessness in the Denver metro area that occurred with the bust in the oil industry in the early 1980's. Our programs respond to the basic human need for shelter, food and clothing. Our services include:
- Emergency shelter in private, 2-bedroom apartment units.
- Transitional and permanent housing.
- Food, clothing, school supplies and other household items for families in need.
- GED preparation and employment services.
- Rental and utility assistance.
Stop by our office, 6978 Colorado Blvd. in Commerce City, for coffee and consider a contribution of money, school supplies, household cleaning and paper supplies, gently used furniture and clothing.
