NMDRA Donates Funds to Local Housing Authorities

Broomfield - October 13, 2008 The North Metro Denver REALTOR® Association (NMDRA) completed their grant cycle for 2008, giving out a total of $5000 to three nonprofit housing organizations in the metro north area through the Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF).

Grant recipients include The City and County of Broomfield/FISH, Growing Home in Westminster, and Adams County Housing Authority.

The money donated to The City and County of Broomfield will go to aid local, low income residents pay rent, utilities, & mortgages to help them remain in their homes and not become homeless. The Adams County Housing Authority is repairing playground equipment for one of their low income housing developments and Growing Home continues to help local families with food, shelter, & daycare.

"These organizations are struggling to maintain the level assistance that they have been offering the community and with more foreclosures and the loss of jobs it is getting more and more difficult," said Skeeter Wilson, CARHOF President.

The two major contributors to CARHOF for NMDRA are ReMax Horizons in Broomfield and Firestone and Guardian Title located in Westminster.

CARHOF has donated $714,000 this year to more than 100 housing agencies in Colorado. This represents the most the foundation has donated in one year.

About 25 percent of the donations were given to organizations that provide foreclosure prevention, like the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline, and various homeless shelters, transitional housing programs for the homeless and mortgage/rental assistance programs to prevent homelessness.

"With the high foreclosure rate in Colorado and significant homeless population, it's not surprising a quarter of our grants this year went to these causes," said Skeeter Wilson, CARHOF President.

CARHOF continues to be one of Colorado's most reliable affordable housing resources. Since 1990, this nonprofit foundation has helped thousands of Colorado residents with their housing needs. To date CARHOF has given more than $6.5 million in grants to nonprofit housing organizations.

The Colorado Association of REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation (CARHOF) is a nonprofit foundation designed to assist housing efforts across the state. CARHOF is part of the Colorado Association of REALTORS®, the largest real estate trade association in the state, representing more than 27,000 members.
