COMMERCE CITY -- Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) arrived at Adams City High School in Commerce City on May 17 th to hold auditions for a local production of
Robin Hood. Roping in the talented young local actors and actresses for this performance were MCT casting agents and directors,
Adam Brown and
Bridget Kilcourse, both with strong backgrounds in the performing arts.
Twenty-two local hopefuls spanning the ages from 6 - 16 arrived with visions of playing the great Robin Hood and Maid Marian. MCT auditions are open for youth from kindergarten to 12th grade and no previous acting experience is required.
Veteran actress
Kelsey Stauffer has performed in numerous plays from Treasure
Island to
Sleeping Beauty through other theater troupes and gave this audition her all to score the lead role of Robin Hood.
All 22 made the cast as MCT productions usually involve a cast of about 60 actors and actresses. This did not discourage Brown and Kilcourse, as they pointed out that it gives each star an opportunity for more stage time by playing multiple roles. Among the roles cast are that of Robin Hood, Maid Marian, the Sheriff of Nottingham, the Merry Band, guards, knights, aristocrats, foresters, and the unlikely heroes - the skunks.
Missoula Children's Theatre is based out of Missoula, Mont. and travels across the nation with the mission to help children build character, communication skills, social skills and more through the performing arts. The high-energy leadership encouraging the performers to use "loud, clear voices" and "big, expressive bodies and faces" inspired on-the-spot confidence. The clear instruction and continuous reinforcement of the rules "be punctual, pay attention, and no gum" are a dream-come-true to many parents. The traveling show puts actors through a week of rehearsals for a final performance by the weekend.
