The Christmas season is now upon us. Forget about Halloween and Thanksgiving, the big money is in Christmas.
I walked into a store the 2nd week of October and thought I would see a bunch of stuff for Halloween and was I wrong. There was more stuff in the store for Christmas!
Now, I'm not against making money, but give me a break. Can our retailers try to keep the Christmas stuff out of the way until the season is here, like maybe near Thanksgiving?
I decided to check out some local stores to see if they also had the same idea, to push Christmas down the throats of consumers to make a fast buck. I decided to check the local stores and to be fair, I checked a bunch. Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, and yes, I even checked our local King Soopers. It was all as expected; they all had their Christmas stuff on display in October. Guess they don't want to miss 3 months of Christmas customers and their money.
I can remember as a kid, when my parents went out Christmas shopping after Thanksgiving and then that is when I noticed all the Christmas displays. These days, it seems that you can't even go to a store to buy your Halloween costume without seeing Christmas items on display. I think this is why so many people as adults just can't get into the Christmas spirit anymore, as everything has gone so commercial and so far before the season starts. Spend spend spend is the season mantra, and retailers just love it.
Maybe we should just let the retailers know that they take the fun out of the season, by putting up seasonal items 3 months in advance.
I still wait till after Thanksgiving to do my shopping anyway when I see the Christmas tree salesmen out in the parking lots and on corners, it worked for my parents and it works for me.
We need to remember that there is more to Christmas than spending spending spending. I hope you enjoy your holiday this year!
