Commerce City, Rapids team up for 4th Fest
Contributed by: City of Commerce City on 6/7/2007

Colorado's biggest, best Independence Day celebration and fireworks show moves to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on July 4

COMMERCE CITY - The Colorado Rapids and Commerce City announced today the details surrounding ''4th Fest Colorado,'' which will be a collaborative effort between the team and city to put on the biggest celebration of America's birthday in Colorado this year at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Commerce City will be moving their official celebration from Fairfax Park to the complex, while the Rapids are moving their annual Fourth of July extravaganza to Dick's Sporting Goods Park from Invesco Field at Mile High.

The can't-miss free outdoor festival begins at 2 p.m. on July 4 when the field complex opens. Activities will take place throughout the day on the streets and fields just south of the stadium. There will be a beer garden, interactive kids and family zone, programmed activities on the stadium fields, and food vendors up and down Valencia Street. It will be a fantastic festival atmosphere you will want to be a part of. The Rapids will also be providing live music starting at 2 p.m. that will feature four unique bands on a huge stage outside the Rapids Stadium.

The activities surrounding the stadium will lead up to the 12th annual Fourth of July home game for the Rapids. The Rapids will take on the Columbus Crew at 7:30 p.m.

Following the game, the Rapids and Commerce City will treat fans to the biggest, longest and most explosive fireworks show in the state, viewable for both fans inside the stadium and those outside on the fields complex. Fans in the stadium that have roof-obstructed view of the pyrotechnics will have the unique opportunity to watch from the stadium field.

The festival outside the stadium will be free but there will be a $5 vehicle admission fee charged for entry to the complex. Fans holding tickets to the Rapids match have the admission fee already included in their ticket price.

this is a dumb idea... for years the community have been gathering at fairfax park.. fairfax is a place were we could go and meet up with old friends, relax in the park having a BBQ playing football and volleyball, having our kids play in the playground. at DICKS SPORTING GOODS PARK we will have to pay $5.00 a carload when previsouly it was free. and we cant BBQ no fun and games.. cant picnic. if you ask me the city really went wrong on this choice
