COMMERCE CITY - The city's finance department has received the
Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, which is awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
The city was awarded the certificate for its 2005 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to the GFOA.
"Receiving these awards has become routine for the city,'' said Roger Tinklenberg, the city's director of finance, "but these awards are not routinely handed out by the GFOA.
"The financial services employees in the finance department deserve recognition for all the hard work that goes into producing the CAFR each year,'' Tinklenberg added.
According to the association, the city demonstrated a "spirit of full disclosure" in communicating the city's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
