Five-hour standoff ends in arrest
The police department received a call saying a wanted person, believed to be armed and dangerous, was in a home in the 6500 block of Kearney Street at 8:02 p.m. Oct. 15. Police arrested four individuals who ran from the home. These individuals confirmed a person wanted on three warrants (second degree assault, kidnapping, felony menacing and robbery) was hiding inside the home. The SWAT team responded to the location and a five hour standoff ended with a search of the home and the arrest of the wanted individual. Reports did not indicate if the person was a man or woman.
Roof caves in
Homeowners on the 6600 block of East 73rd Place decided it was time to put new shingles on their home on Nov. 3. When the roofers climbed on the roof to begin the job, the entire roof caved in. No one was hurt. The home was condemned by the fire department and the family was assisted by Red Cross.
Hitchiker drives away with car
A man reported he picked up a female hitchhiker and drove to a liquor store at 7:31 p.m. Nov. 22. He allowed the female to stay in his vehicle and left the car running to keep her warm as he went inside the store. When he came back out of the store, the female and his car were gone. The man said he did not know the 5-foot, 7-inch Hispanic female in her 30s.
Searching for God? No, a TV
A pastor at Family of Christ Church, located at 6610 E. 72nd Place, came upon a broken window at 6:26 p.m. Dec. 5. Thinking vandals broke the window, he moved to an adjoining room where he saw a man lying on a couch watching TV. The pastor called police, who upon arrival told the man to show his hands. The man would not obey and officers said a K-9 unit would be sent inside if the man did not show his hands. Though the man was uncooperative, he was apprehended and transported to Denver Health Medical Center for injuries received in the apprehension.
