Police blotter: Officer catches street racer

STREET RACERS TRY TO EVADE OFFICER
While on patrol at about 10:56 p.m. April 13, an officer pulled into the area of the 5500 block of East 48th Avenue where he surprised about a dozen street racers. One of the vehicles was driving without headlights. As the officer tried to stop the vehicle at about the 5200 block of East 48th Avenue, the vehicle initially pulled over to the right side of the road, then accelerated away from the officer. The driver attempted to negotiate a left turn to southbound Dahlia Street, where the vehicle struck the curb and rolled onto its side. The driver was transported to the hospital after complaining of a neck injury and was issued a summons for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving without his lights on.
