THIEF IS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING
Officers were called to the 3100 block of East 56th Avenue on May 4 because it was reported that a drunk man on railroad property was stripping wire. Apparently, a train had passed by and saw the man who had used pole climbers to scale a pole and was in the process of trying to steal copper wire. When asked if he understood the property belonged to the railroad he said he did and that he was just trying to make a living. He was arrested on suspicion of theft.
GUARD HIT BY CAR
Officers responded to Holly Park Apartments, 5520 E. 60
th Ave., to a hit and run at 11:35 p.m. April 29. When the officers arrived, they found the security guard for the complex had been hit by a green Ford Taurus or similar body style vehicle. The guard was walking the east side parking lot, when he was struck from behind by the vehicle. The guard complained of injury to his left leg and was transported to University Hospital with minor injuries.
NEVERMIND, OFFICER
A woman called officers at 12:56 a.m. May 1 and said she heard a lady screaming in the apartment above hers. A man in a striped shirt was seen leaving the apartments. The first officer arrived and saw a woman who motioned him over to her. When asked if she called, she indicated she was not and didn't know who called. A man in a striped shirt then came up to them carrying a grocery bag. He then turned and ran. Officers eventually caught the man and recovered the grocery bag that contained individual baggies of a total of 3.94 ounces of marijuana.
MAN ARRESTED FOR POSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHENALIA
A car was traveling on the 9600 block of Dallas Street at 12:15 a.m. April 29 when an officer stopped the car because he could not see the license plate. The driver stated he knew why the officer was stopping him as his temporary plate was expired. During the exchange, both the driver and the passenger seemed visibly nervous. When the driver stepped out of the car, the officer noticed the passenger stick something down her pants. The driver admitted that he had two scales, a used methamphetamine pipe and a used marijuana pipe. The driver was given a summons for no insurance, expired temporary tag and possession of drug paraphernalia.
