WOMEN SOLICIT SEX AT TRAVEL AMERICA

At 7:41 a.m. July 12, Officers were called to Travel America by a clerk who stated a truck driver had come in and told him there was a woman who was knocking on truck doors and offering her "services" and that they didn't want her on the premises. The officer located a car parked in an area that was reserved for truck and trailer parking only. While talking to the woman who was in the passenger seat of the car, she stated that she was with a friend and they had run out of gas and they had pulled into Travel America to purchase gas. Upon finding the driver, she stated they had come there to get money from a friend. When asked why the friend would give her money she stated because she needed it and that it wasn't in exchange for anything. The stories didn't match and after clearance of both parties it was discovered that the driver had previously been convicted of soliciting for prostitution at the Travel America some two years earlier. Both of the women were given summonses for trespassing. The driver was also charged with solicitation of prostitution.

CAR ABANDONED AFTER CHASE

At 3 a.m. July 6, an officer was on the 8000 block of Dahlia Street when a green Honda Accord with spray paint marks all over the driver's side passed him going south. As the officer turned around in the road to follow the vehicle he saw the vehicle cross over East 74 th Avenue, running the red traffic light. The vehicle was still several blocks in front of the officer when he last saw the vehicle running the red traffic light with East 72nd Ave, continuing south on Dahlia Street. As officers drove into the area they observed a large cloud of dust and located the suspect vehicle parked next to the fence of a business. The vehicle had been abandoned. The vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Westminster. A K-9 unit tracked the suspect into the yard of the business and west toward Clermont Street, then south on Clermont to Saurini Boulevard where the K-9 lost scent.

CASING THE JOINT

At 7:30 p.m. July 11, an officer was flagged down by a manager of the Family Dollar Store at 6071 E. 72nd Ave who advised the store was possibly being robbed. The officer called for back-up and when the suspects exited the store they were taken into custody. The manager stated it appeared they were about to be robbed as the three suspects came into the store and stood and watched the clerk run the register for 15 minutes without purchasing anything. After further investigation it was learned that they appeared to be casing the store but not actively robbing it. No weapons were found on the suspects, in their car, or in the store. The vehicle however had been cleared several times by the Mesa County Drug Task Force before arriving in Denver. All suspects were identified. One of the males was found to be 18 years old, and had been drinking. He was cited for underage consumption and taken to the WashingtonHouseDetoxificationCenter.
