From riding a bike, to sneaking an extra helping of dessert, to mastering algebra (or not!) children learn so much from their dads. During the Colorado Rapids game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on June 21, 2008, fans will be invited to participate in the "My Dad Taught Me" viral video campaign and videotape some of their best experiences with their fathers.
Sponsored by the Colorado Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Initiative and Comcast Spotlight, the "My Dad Taught Me" tent will be located in Section 126 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Tapings will begin at the start of the game. Each participant - no matter their age - will be asked to tape a short memory of something their father has taught them. Because each father/child relationship is so unique, stories may range from learning to read to climbing a mountain. Ten of the vignettes taped on June 21 will then be selected to air on the Colorado Dads Web site - www.coloradodads.com.
Following the Rapids game on June 21, the "My Dad Taught Me" campaign will be traveling throughout Colorado looking for poignant and funny stories of fathers and their children.
To find out the current location of the "My Dad Taught Me" campaign, please visit www.coloradodads.com.
About The Colorado Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Initiative:
In October 2006, the Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado Works
Division was awarded a $10 million federal grant over five years to strengthen father/child relationships and improve parenting. Colorado is one of two locations nationwide, including Washington, D.C., to receive this federal community access grant. The Responsible Fatherhood Initiative distributes more than $1.1 million in community awards to state, community and faith based organizations to assist in providing direct services to fathers and families. Awards of up to $50,000 are distributed per program per fiscal year.
