David Busby

I am
David R. D. Busby
and have resided in Commerce City for 41 years. Minneapolis, Minnesota is my birthplace. I attended Oak Grove Elementary School and Robbinsdale High School before attending the University of Minnesota. During the early 1970s, I also attended Metropolitan State College to major in Political Science.
In 1959, I joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged in January of 1964. During those years I attended electronic technical training on airborne radar, sight systems and toss bomb computers at Lowry Air Force Base. That led to not only a career in electronics in Denver when I was discharged but also to Commerce City being my hometown. A partner, Floyd A. Jordan Jr., and I bought an electronic service business in 1972 and operated it together through 1999. In 1999, I turned to a new career at the Colorado Department of Transportation in Performance Management. In December of 2005, I retired.
I have served Commerce City as a Councilmember-at-large for ten years (1977 through 1987) and as Mayor for twelve years (1987 through 1999). I have decided, once again, to serve the residents of Commerce City. During the twenty two years on the council, I helped to accomplish the following: issued millions of dollars in Development Revenue Bonds - creating employment and tax base; adopted an Enterprise Zone - attracting new business and promoting business expansion; promoted a controlled progressive growth initiative - enabling Commerce City to increase its residential, commercial, and industrial base; formed the Housing/Urban Renewal Authority - enabling new housing and rehabilitation of present housing; promoted the Beautification Program - aesthetically improving Commerce City; constructed a new City Hall - increasing productivity and efficiency of the administration; constructed a new Recreation Center - realizing a dream for all the citizens of Commerce City to use for years to come. Other major accomplishments are the Memorandum of Understanding (and other agreements) with Denver; Planning and Annexation Agreements with Brighton, Thornton, and Aurora; and the Co-ordinating Agreement with Adams County. These agreements are the means that will protect Commerce City residents from environmental impacts, devaluation of property, and unnecessary expenditures of tax dollars.

If you truly want the best person to be your next Mayor of Commerce City, vote for Dave Busby. Tuesday, April 3rd, you have the opportunity to go to the polls and vote for the candidate who has the greatest experience in leadership and management. I have more political experience than the other candidates combined. Having worked in both the private and the public sectors gives me a broad perspective on the issues and problems arising in Commerce City.
My slogan in 1987 to 1991 was "We've only just begun" and in 1995 to 1999, it was "Getting Commerce City prepared for the next Century". I believe both were true but much more needs to be accomplished . It has been an honor to have served you as Mayor for the twelve years and naturally, I would be honored to serve you for another four years. I will continue the projects which are underway but focus on attaining some fiscal responsibility and a long range vision for Commerce City.
I will continue to expend my energies to promote growth, employment, an efficient and effective administration, and improve our quality of life. These are high goals. However, they are attainable through a cooperative City Council, administration, and citizenry. We can and will succeed!
I would appreciate your support and your vote April 3rd for re-election for Mayor of Commerce City. Remember, every vote counts and the only way to select, is to elect by a vote, the candidate whose ideas and opinions most parallel your own opinions on the issues that you feel important.
