Commerce City gymnasts qualify for regional meet

Seven teams made up of nearly 300 gymnasts between the ages of 7 and 17 came to Commerce City in June for the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) girls' gymnastics meet.

All 27 gymnasts on the Commerce City team qualified to compete at regional championships, to be held at Legacy High School in Broomfield July 11-12. Of the 27 athletes, 22 qualified as all-around competitors and five qualified to compete as event specialists.

Gymnasts must place in the top six in any event or in the all-around competition to qualify for the state championships. The state competition will be July 25-26 at Overland High School in Aurora.

Teams at the Commerce City meet included Commerce City, Thornton, Gymnastics Etc., Broomfield, Strasburg, Airborne and Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics. Competition was split into three categories.

Commerce City wishes to thank the following for their donations and support; DSP Builders, RF bar placing Inc., the Anderson Family, United Power, city staff members and parent volunteers.

The Commerce City Recreation Center offers gymnastics programs for girls and boys from toddler to 17 years of age in instructional gymnastics and competitive programs. The recreation center has a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility with a spring floor, spring loaded vault runway, all regulation equipment, a foam training pit and top-of-the-line instructors. Optional 1
Priscilla Romeo: 3rd on floor, 5th on beam, 6th in all-around; Kelsey Thomas: 3rd on vault, 3rd on bars, 3rd on floor, and 5th in all-around.

Optional 2
Jordan Mee: 4th on beam; Carly Mott: 6th on beam.

Optional 3
Courtney Kerls: 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 3rd on floor, 5th on vault (8.0-tie), 1st in all-around; Leslie Holliday: 1st on floor (9.0), 3rd on beam, 5th on vault (8.0-tie), fifth in all-around; Jessica Ramos: 2nd on bars; Nicole Yamaguchi: 3rd on bars, 4th on floor, 5th on beam, 6th in all-around.

Optional 4
Koriko Ruiz: 1st on vault (9.1), 1st on beam (9.4), 3rd on floor, 4th on bars, 1st in all-around; Jamie Fiske: 1st on floor, 3rd on beam, 4th on vault, 6th on bars, 3rd in all-around; Maleshah Bender: 3rd on bars, 4th on floor, 5th on vault, 6th on beam, 5th in all-around.

Compulsory level 5
9-10
Dusty Sandoval: 4th on beam, 4th on the floor, 5th in all-around.

11-12
Eryn Manchego: 3rd on vault;
Breanne Rodlin: 2nd on vault, 4th on bars;
Lindsay Webb: 1st on vault (9.0), 2nd on floor, 3rd on beam, 4th on bars, 1st in all-around.

13-18
Crystal Budow: 1st on floor, 2nd on vault, 3rd on beam, 4th on bars, 2nd in all-around.

8-year-old
Taylor Phillips-Jones: 1st on vault (8.8), 4th on floor.

9-year-old
Emily Ramos: 1st on vault (9.0), 6th on floor; Sadie Fielding: 2nd on bars, 4th on vault, 6th in all-around.

10-year-old
Karlie Wilson: 2nd on vault, 5th on beam, 6th on floor, 6th on bars, 4th in all-around; Brittany Blackburn: 2nd on vault, 6th on beam, 6th on floor, 6th in all-around.
