Seven teams made up of nearly 300 gymnasts between the ages of 7 and 17 came to Commerce City in June for the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) girls' gymnastics meet.
All 27 gymnasts on the Commerce City team qualified to compete at regional championships, to be held at Legacy High School in Broomfield July 11-12. Of the 27 athletes, 22 qualified as all-around competitors and five qualified to compete as event specialists.
Gymnasts must place in the top six in any event or in the all-around competition to qualify for the state championships. The state competition will be July 25-26 at Overland High School in Aurora.
Teams at the Commerce City meet included Commerce City, Thornton, Gymnastics Etc., Broomfield, Strasburg, Airborne and Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics. Competition was split into three categories.
Commerce City wishes to thank the following for their donations and support; DSP Builders, RF bar placing Inc., the Anderson Family, United Power, city staff members and parent volunteers.

The recreation center has a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility with a spring floor, spring loaded vault runway, all regulation equipment, a foam training pit and top-of-the-line instructors.
