My neighbor spends some weekend time in the kitchen and occasionally bestows on us the results.
No, it's not a whipped creamy melt-in-your-mouth chocolate surprise.
He's into the basics. Baking bread kind of basics.
But this is not ordinary bread. It's sourdough with a tough crunchy crust and chewy rustic center.
Besides being pretty, with the artistic slashes across the top, it's hearty and really delicious.
It's so good, it could be a meal all by itself.
I'm not sure how we rate such thoughtfulness and generosity, but I'm not going to stir up any debate about it.
Accept and enjoy. And praise.
We thank him, secretly hoping this will lead to more. The minute we say goodbye, we get out the serrated knife and the butter.
This must be one of those neighborly things that happen when you've been in one place a long time.
This is in contrast to my childhood, which was characterized by frequent moves and different schools. I was shy, so that made it difficult.
I'm not shy any more. Actually, I'm probably too old to be shy.
Sometimes during the YourHub.com workday, I get calls from folks who have neighbors who are accomplished, but carry on unrecognized. It's basic to them, but perhaps, not ordinary. Maybe they race cars, bake scrumptious bread, scale mountains, or want to change the health care system. Maybe they made a home run at the last little league game.
If you have news about a neighbor or a city project that affects your neighborhood, or a question about recent developments we want to hear about it.
Maybe you can share what happened at a recent wonder about the construction on the side of the highway, or can report on county commission or city council meeting.
These are neighborhood issues. They could and merit a story, maybe a photo or two.
We are always on the lookout for news items in your neighborhood, so If you are handy with a digital camera, or can put together a few paragraphs about your favorite baseball player, or what's happening with the commissioners or city council or what that new development on the highway it -- please let us know about it.
Don't be shy.
