Visions From Music

"Visions from Music", the live creation of a painting inspired by a free musical concert, will be performed by impressionistic artist Robyn Lydick and the Highlands Ranch Concert Band on January 27 at 3:00 pm at St Andrew United Methodist Church located at 3350 White Bay Dr in Highlands Ranch.

Artist Robyn Lydick will paint her impressions of the Concert Band's performance of Broadway show tunes, sharing the stage with the Concert Band. The audience will have the opportunity to see Lydick's live visual artistic creation from beginning to completion from a large overhead screen. Following the performance, Lydick will auction her painting with a significant portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Concert Band.

Songs to be performed by the Concert Band may include "Porgy and Bess Medley", "The Phantom of the Opera", "Gilbert and Sullivan Soufflé", "West Side Story", "Irving Berlin - A Symphonic Portrait", and "Selections from the Music Man". The Concert Band is directed by Conifer resident Joseph M. Brice, who was inducted into the Colorado Music Educator's Hall of Fame in 2006 and was named one of the nation's 10 Best Band Directors. Brice was Director of Bands and Fine Arts Coordinator for Smoky Hill High School for 30 years.

Experiential artist, Robyn Lydick, has painted during performances by many bands including Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Willie Waldeman (Snoop Dogg), and Air Supply.

Experiential Painting? What's that? Painting live at a concert allows art to be an experience as much as a finished canvas. The colors and forms, whether representational or not, are the signature of live music at a particular moment. "Think of each painting as a postcard from a moment in creative time, a moment you get to keep," Robyn said. "For me, capturing the energy of the musicians and the people attending the show is worthwhile because that band will not play that show that way ever again. I can paint the same band on different nights and the images and forms change radically. The paint has trapped the butterfly's breath and nailed it to canvas."

Highlands Ranch Concert Band is a non-profit organization of volunteer professional, amateur and student musicians dedicated to educating and enlightening residents with quality musical performances. The Highlands Ranch Concert Band proudly announces its major sponsors: Metro District of Highlands Ranch, Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, 9 News, Highlands Ranch Self Storage, KUVO, and Wells Fargo.
