On Dec. 22 at approximately 3 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies apprehended two suspects for recent mail thefts.
The suspects were captured in the 27000 block of Richmond Hill Road. More than 375 pieces of mail, including gift cards, cash, wine and a box of homemade cookies were recovered during the arrest. A week prior, more than 140 mailboxes had been targeted in the same area and a large amount of mail was recovered.
Citizens in the Conifer area became vigilant after letters from the Sheriff's Office, concerning the thefts, were sent out. Several witnesses called the Sheriff's Office when they saw a red Volkswagen at a row of mailboxes and the male passenger removing mail.
Michael Pantera, dob 101580, of Denver and
Sophie Shafer, dob 081989, of Bailey, were arrested without incident. They were booked into the Jefferson County Jail for theft. Investigators are attempting to determine if Pantera and Shafer are responsible for several burglaries in the Conifer community.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Postal Service and Park County Sheriff's office are continuing the investigation for possible filing of additional charges.
