Conifer High School's marching band is back on the field, practicing from 8:45 until 4. Band camp started on August 7, going through till Friday, then starting up again on Mon the 14.
The players started out the day on a high note, excited to be back on the field. As the day wears on, the heat starts up and the water runs low.
"Take 5 and then get back to page 14!" shouts band director Jeff Nixon.
Water breaks are a few of the simple pleasures throughout the day. This is the students time to relax and revamp their energy.
To brighten up the day, Diane Humphrey, mother of two band students, offered up a contest.
"Just to make things interesting, i don't know it was Diane's idea, but here's a slip of paper. Write how many steps you think we take in a day, and Chris is going to wear an odometer for a day of marching. Whoever is closest wins a movie gift certificate," said drum major Kylie Bechdolt.
That should make for some fun nights for whoever decides to count just how many steps band students
do
take in one day of intense marching.

I'm going crazy trying to find a good pic of last year's (2005) Lobo Regiment Marching Band. I would like the full band (or most) -- casual or formal. At CBA Championships (Invesco Field)? Or ZIA Festival? Even just at practice on the CHS field! If anyone has any good pics, please let me know. My son is on the CHS Lobo Regiment Drumline. Thanks so much! I'll keep my fingers crossed!!
