Cathie Nicholson will chair Miles-for-Miracles run
Contributed by: Mark Samuelson on 3/9/2008

Not-for-profit Prestige Miracles Foundation has named Cathie Nicholson of Prestige Real Estate Group's Conifer office as chair of its 8 th annual Miles for Miracles 5K Run-Walk, set for May 3rd at Invesco Field.

"I'm proud to chair an event with such a strong tradition, one that always accomplishes so much good for Colorado families," said Nicholson in accepting the position.

Miles for Miracles got its start in 2000, when Prestige agents came together in support of one-year-old Jamie Romano, daughter of Prestige agent Jim Romano, who had been diagnosed with childhood leukemia. Agents carried out the first run as a means of supporting the family's special needs as they battled for their daughter's life.

Jamie won that battle (she'll be ten this year) and will be back as a runner at Miles for Miracles. Half of the race's proceeds are given to The Children's Hospital, where Jamie was treated; the rest is dispersed through Prestige Miracles Foundation to Denver area families requiring support during periods of medical or other emergencies.

According to Leeann Iacino, President of Prestige, Prestige Miracles Foundation raised more than $180,000 last year, dispersed to 25 area families and seven charities, including Children's.

The Race, set for 8 a.m. Saturday, May 3, leaves Invesco for a spectacular 5-K run along the Platte River Trail beside downtown Denver, then returns to the Stadium, where runners watch their own arrival broadcast on the JumboTron. In addition to the regular 5K race, families enter their kids in a special kids' race around Invesco.

Broncos Cheerleaders will be on hand to sign autographs; along with Broncos Junior Cheerleaders, former Broncos wide receiver Haven Moses who is Prestige Miracles Foundation honorary chair, and KCNC News 4's anchor Tom Mustin, back as honorary master of ceremonies. Register in advance, $25 for adults, $10 for juniors 12-and-under, on line at www.bkbltd.com or at PrestigeMiraclesFoundation.org.
