Blog Entry 19 of 83 North Denver Doorbell
Greetings. I'm the editor at YourHub.com and I use this blog to share what's going on in my 'hood and beyond. If you're curious, the North Denver Doorbell is the regular honking we hear in our neighborhood as motorists approach alley intersections or when they don't feel like getting out of their cars to politely knock or ring a doorbell.

Birthday celebration for me; $100 for you
Contributed by: Fairlight Baer/YourHub.com   on 2/1/2007

Feb. 8 update: I'm going to pick a winner this afternoon, so post those last-minute recommendations by 3 p.m.

Hello to the socialites, metrosexuals, club kids, people-watchers and everyone else who enjoys a good night on the town. I need your help, and I'm willing to pay.

February's here and that means, among other things, my birthday's approaching. Since I've been in Thailand for three weeks, I'm a little unprepared in deciding where to celebrate my 28th.

I know I want to go dancing on Feb. 10, but I'm feeling a little clueless about what the perfect spot would be. A couple years ago I migrated from dance clubs to taverns and lounges for my nightlife experience, and some good tail-shaking isn't easy with shuffleboards and divans in the way.

Make a recommendation in the comment area below (you'll have to register first by clicking in the red circle in the top left of this page) and if I pick your comment, I'll hook you up with $100 to spend at Larimer Square. Hint: I most like to move to Top 40, hip-hop and reggaeton with maybe a little trance and '80s (though don't tell my music-snob colleagues). Also, I'd prefer to go somewhere in downtown Denver, but I'll consider anywhere in the metro area.

Make sure to let my friends, my new fiancee and me know why your club of choice is the right spot. If you're the owner, promoter or employee of the spot, that's fine, just say so in your comment. I'll announce the winner on Feb. 8 and hand over the gift certificate the following week. (My thanks to my friend and LSQ marketing manager Margaret Ebeling for underwriting my bribe.)

So, what'll it be? Purple Martini? 5 Degrees? The Shelter? Monarck? Rise? Crave? The Church? LoDo's? A place I've never heard of?

Hey Fairlight, my two cents: The Loft has a fun, chic atmosphere without being snobby (I went there for the first time recently, they also had $2 drinks until 11 when I was there) and free parking; Shelter is another fav because there is always something different going on in the multiple levels. Good luck picking a winner!

If you want a really interesting, fun and different experience hit up Cafe Cero on South Broadway between Arkansas and Florida. It's quite small so be sure not to miss it. It's on the east side of Broadway and it's right next to an antique shop. We went there last weekend for my friends 25th birthday and it was a lot of fun. They had a great reggae band performing and a small dance floor. They also have pool tables for the people who don't like to dance. Have a great time wherever you decide to go!

Easily the place to be on Feb 10 is The Loft at 22nd and Champa. Not only is it the second anniversary party for dancemusicboard.net, but it is also the founder of the dMb's birthday party as well! Two floors of ridiculous fun for you and your friends, and it doesn't end at 2am! That's when the party moves to Spa Audio Therapy afterhours! Two clubs, one night, and all of Denver's most fun people...you can't go wrong!

If you like dancing to 80s music (who doesn't) I would suggest the Hi-Dive on Broadway. Make sure Magic Cyclops is spinning.

We are opposites! I'm leaving for Thailand for 3 weeks this Friday! Since I won't be here for your b-day, I suggest going to my no-fail, everyone always has a good time, dance spot - Polly Esthers. There's no way you can't have a good time dancing there.

Rise will hook you up with some stuff if you have a birthday there. A bit of champagne and a table and free admission, etc. But I personally would snob-snub any place that isn't spinning some drum n' bass/jungle.

I suggest the Purple Martini. I had a blast there. Even though no dance floor people were just dancing where they stood. They also have a few places that you can reserve. One is to the right of entry its kind of hidden but cozy, the 2nd is to the left and all the way back against the wall, you get a small section where you can actually dance. I have only been to a few places here in Denver.
