Blog Entry 96 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Segways and vacations
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 7/23/2008

Summer is a great time to explore the history of your town. I know I love revisiting the Colorado History Museum, taking a walking tour through historic neighborhoods around Denver and seeing what made our city what it is today.

Though I consider myself a full-fledged Denverite, I know there are still places I have yet to visit and activities to do in this city. On July 2, I got to join in on a Colorado Adventure-Segway Tours trip around Denver. Our group cruised on Segways, those odd-looking, two-wheeled people-movers.

Though I have walked the South Platte River Park dozens of times, I have never seen the Centennial Gardens near it, which we stopped by during our tour. It was a beautiful place! Nicely designed gardens and fountains to complement them. It was a real treat for me to see the area. You can read my story about Colorado Adventure-Segway Tours by clicking here.

I have to say, I want to own a Segway someday. At about $5,000, however, I'll have to start saving up. But they are the neatest machines! Though you feel uneasy at first, you start getting the hang of using your body to propel yourself. You can see what Segways look like with the photo on the right. Here is a larger version of it.

I also had my big, weeklong vacation from July 14 to 18 and though I didn't go anywhere exotic, it was still relaxing and fun.

I spent the first few days in Colorado Springs visiting my family. More or less, it was a time for me to clean up and organize some of my stuff in my parents' basement. It was nice to go through my old books, papers and photos, recalling all the special memories with them.

The rest of the week was spent catching up on laundry and daytime TV. And my boyfriend Damon's band, Sh*twolf, had a great performance July 18 at the Rock & Roll Grill on 15th and Champa streets.

The beginning of school is just right around the corner. I can't believe it's almost August. We're gearing up to include school start times, addresses and other important information in our print editions in the coming weeks and I'd love to see any back-to-school photos or read tips and fashion advice from you!

Segways look fun! I was in Malvern, Arkansas, a few weeks ago (hometown of Billy Bob Thornton) and was surprised to see downtown police officers patrolling on Segways! I dunno. Could you catch a running thief with a Segway??
