It was four thirty in the morning on June 26 th. I was wide awake, I could not sleep, I was too wound up contemplating the trip to Seminoe State Park in Wyoming, thirty miles north of Sinclair Wyoming, two hundred and fifty miles from Denver. I rented a twenty-five foot RV the previous day. It sure looked big. I am not used to driving anything that big. I am sure it is going to cost a bundle to feed this gas hog. There goes my stimulus check.
We finally departed around eight-thirty in the morning. The plan was to follow my step-daughter and her families' trailer. At Laramie Wyoming I had to stop and go tinkle and they did not know we stopped. This caused a little concern for them since they did not realize we had to stop and I lost cell phone service just north of Fort Collins. We arrived at the camp site about an hour after they did because we also stopped at Sinclair to fuel up and had a bite to eat. They were sure glad to see us because they did not know what happened and as you know your mind always thinks of the worst. Anyway, we arrived around two o'clock in the afternoon. Does the wind always blow in Wyoming?
There were about eleven different parties of families and friends. We just kind of took over this one camping area since that was all the sites available. There is a quiet time regulation from ten P.M. to six in the morning. However, the warden said since we were one big happy family that regulation could be set aside for our stay. One of the enjoyable events of the trip was the bonfire every night with the laughing music and loud talking. Some of the younger ones went on until late into the night.
During the day, time was spent down by the water, boat riding, eating and many power naps. The party had two boats and another brought a jet ski. We saw an antelope go up a draw about fifty yards away from the camp site. It must be open range because two gigantic bulls paid us a visit during our stay. They did not look very friendly at all. The mosquitoes didn't bother me. They were busy attacking my wife. She received about eight bites.
It was nice to get away. The nine hundred dollar rental for the RV and the two hundred fifty dollars for fuel were worth it to me. You have to be reckless with your money sometimes. I would prefer to rent a RV instead of buying one and have it set in the driveway for forty-eight weeks out of the year and watch it depreciate. The best part of the trip was the family and friends getting together and laughing and talking. Will we do it again? You bet we will.
