What's your favorite truck/trucker movie?

YourHub.com Presents: The Top 11 Truck/Trucker Movies We Could Think Of, In No Particular Order

Multiple studies have shown that any red-blooded American loves a good movie in which the lead character (or a supporting character) drives a semi truck for the majority of a movie, or just part of the movie, or a movie in which a semi truck is featured, or a movie in which a semi truck turns into a robot to battle evil, or a movie in which a semi truck actually comes to life and tries to kill people. At YourHub.com, we pride ourselves on our trucker movie expertise.

Without further ado:

Convoy
YourHub.com Community Journalist Brendan Harrington's favorite movie. Aside from that, not much else is known, besides the fact that Kris Kristofferson appears shirtless on the movie poster.

Big Trouble in Little China
Jack Burton, played by Kurt Russell, drives a semi for the first couple minutes and the last couple minutes of this one. In between, he has to save the world from Lo Pan, the underworld sorcerer, in Chinatown.

Duel
The film that got Steven Spielberg noticed. Ninety minutes of Dennis Weaver getting chased by an evil truck and its unseen driver. And this was in 1971, before people had heard of "road rage."

Smokey and the Bandit
The classic semi truck movie.

Smokey and the Bandit II
Well, why not?

Maximum Overdrive
Machines, including semi trucks, come alive and try to kill people. Emilio Estevez. Enough said.

Black Dog
Patrick Swayze's characterserved two years in prison for vehicular manslaughter after seeing the "black dog," and has a hard time finding work, until he gets a shady gig driving a truckload of automatic weapons. Starring Randy Travis, Patrick Swayze and Meat Loaf, which should speak to just about everyone on some level, even if it's not a level they're proud of being spoken to, on, I guess.

Over the Top
From IMDB.com: "Lincoln Hawk ( Stallone) is a struggling trucker who's trying to rebuild his life. After the death of his ex-wife, he tries to make amends with his son who he left behind years earlier. Upon their first meeting, his son doesn't think too highly of him until he enters the nation-wide arm wrestling competition in Las Vegas."

Transformers
Optimus Prime is a semi truck.

Breakdown
Kurt Russell's character and his wife are moving across the country. Their new car breaks down and a trucker stops and offers to give Kurt's wife a ride to the nearest diner to call for help. When she's gone too long, he goes to investigate and finds out she's been kidnapped. Kurt Russell has a certain chemistry on screen with semi trucks.

Joy Ride
I think Paul Walker is such a bad actor that he can ruin any movie he appears in, but, then again, he's never in very good movies. From IMDB.com: "Three young people on a road trip from Colorado to New Jersey talk to a trucker on their CB radio, then must escape when he turns out to be a psychotic killer."

omg i cant believe the movie "trucks" another "maximum overdrive" movie by stephen king was not mentioned lol

Not much of a trucker movie aficionado, but you forgot the best thing about Maximum Overdrive: The all-AC/DC soundtrack.

Every Which Way But Loose and T2 are obvious mistakes on my part, as is Breaker! Breaker! starring Chuck Norris, who, as we all know, can slam a revolving door. Trucks, and I may be mistaken, is the Australian version of Maximum Overdrive. I refuse to budge on B.J. and the Bear*, however.

Oh man... We forgot (or did we?) PeeWee's big adventure... I think there was a semi-truck scene in that one...

How'd you miss "TRUCKS?" Check it here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0120380/

My favorite is definitely Big Trouble in Little China: Never drive faster than you can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes. Wasn't White Line Fever a trucker movie. Eihter that, or it was a drug movie. I can't remember.

We forgot T2: Judgement Day. Two major chase sequences employ the almighty semi. This movie also is great if you're into helicopters, Harley-Davidsons or futuristic, bloodthirsty tanks. Also, the movie Cars, while not among Pixar's best, cast a semi in a supporting role. I'm all for more movies that feature potentially lethal heavy machinery that talks.

Speaking of good semi truck stories, when I was a truck driver in Iowa some wasted kid stole my semi on a bike ride. He only drove it about a half mile and left it on the side of the road. Your article got me thinking of possible movies I could make. What if...it was a gas truck or a truck filled with rocket fuel and he drove the semi into a barn filled with beef cattle. So the truck rocks the 300 some steers in the barn and it explodes! Cattle everywhere. The next thing you know the guy comes out the barn eating a medium rare 64 oz steak with his bare hands, looking a little more like Kris Kristofferson or Chuck Norris, whichever you prefer really and then starts doing a work on the Total Body Gym TM that just happened to be sitting just outside of the barn...what are the odds?

Ninety minutes of Dennis Weaver? Sign me up.

Let us not forget the instant classic 'Every Which Way but Loose'. Here is a brief summary of, pinched from IMBD: Plot Summary for Every Which Way But Loose (1978) Philo Beddoe is an easy-going trucker and a great fist-fighter. With two friends - Orville, who promotes prize-fights for him, and Clyde, the orangutan he won on a bet - he roams the San Fernando Valley in search of cold beer, country music and the occasional punch-up I mean... you cant beat that.
