This whole thing started out as a joke.
Well, really, it's
Seth's fault. When
My Name Is Earl was first bursting onto the primetime TV scene, he mentioned that in college, he looked a lot like that show's Crab Man, played by character actor
Eddie Steeples. We didn't really believe him. Until he showed us the photo at right, that is.
A few months passed, and
John Eisel, another
YourHub.com staffer, mentioned a few similarities between people in our office and the denizens of
The Office on NBC ("Ain't no party like a Scranton party!").
Let's just say things snowballed.
By expanding our scope to the current Thursday primetime lineup of NBC (
My Name Is Earl, The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock and
ER) for maximum coverage, John and I started noticing some similarities that, while not jaw-dropping, still
make you go hmmmm.....
The unfinishedNBC/YourHub.com matrix:
Author's note: Everyone in our office has a counterpart. However, it would take a really, really long time to write out why the pairings happened, so here are the first few I wrote. I'll be adding more when I have the time. By the way, I've been designated the "Earl" of the office, mostly because of photo I took while shaving my beard.
The Office
Michael Scott = Travis Henry
They both harangue their employees with stand-up, wear ties and manage offices. Plus Travis is trying really hard
not to be like Michael Scott, so I've got to take my shots while I can.
Jim Halpert = John Brandstetter
Tall, funny and generally fun to be around. They kind of look alike too, don't they?
Pam Beesly = Rebecca Zimmerman
Just about the two most pleasant, mild-mannered people you could hope for in an office.
Creed Bratton = Jeff Thomas
Creed isn't a major player on
The Office (
here's a clip), but if you want sarcasm, general bullheadedness and reminiscing about the 60s and 70s Jeff and Creed both have you covered.
Don't see your favorite YourHub.com staffer on this list? Don't worry, they're all on
this high-quality chart painstakingly constructed by yours truly that has every single person in the
YourHub.com office and their NBC Thursday night lineup counterpart.
Now dig this: While compiling this blog/chart, the aforementioned Seth Davis wrote a blog about his own experience being
repeatedly mistaken for a mysterious man named Omar. He must just have one of those faces.
And if that's not eerie enough,
The Lush Report blogger and YourHub.com staffer
John Zwick was
writing an entry about his 'clone' wandering the nightlife of Denver. It's like a conspiracy of convergences at YourHub.com.
This is all well and good, but I know for sure that we aren't the only office in Denver. Tell us the stories about your office; the quirks, the traditions, the characters. Click here to get started. Or, if you have had a similar experience of being mistaken for someone you've never met? Share your story
here.
In the meantime, I'll be stretching my hands out after that marathon chart-construction and contemplating how I can make myself look more like
Jason Lee.
