Drive Less Denver: Bike path still flooded

This really kind of sucks. I took this photo at about 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, looking southeast towards Arapahoe from above the Cherry Creek bike trail. The trail is still covered in a few inches of water and is closed in a couple of spots, making it a lot less convenient since I have to detour up onto Speer Boulevard and onto the sidewalk. Just when the wind is pushing you to about 25 mph and you're going downhill, oh, not so fast, trail closed.

I'm working on doing all my errands either by bike or by walking, and on this trip, I managed to cram a wedding gift from REI and $20 worth of groceries in my messenger bag. You really think hard about what you're going to do with a loaf of bread or a bunch of bananas when you've only got so much cargo space on your back.

If you're interested in what some of the other participants in Drive Less Denver are experiencing during their first car-free week, check out the blog at www.drivelessdenverblogs.org. This one's my favorite from today: The Grand Experiment Begins.

You should invest in one of those kiddie carts that parents use when hauling their kids on bikes. That way, you can load your loaf of bread, bananas and possibly a bag of ice with you whenever you go shopping.

Bummer about the flooding. Bike paths in Boulder are clear. You're absolutely right about having to think harder when shopping by bike. I followed up on that theme here: http://snipurl.com/1j989 - Amy
