Maybe it's because I'm an editor or maybe it's because I drive/walk/ride past this sign on a near-daily basis, but I noticed something that just isn't right about the sign on the new bodega at Colfax Avenue and Grant Street.
As you can see at right
(or by clicking here for a full-size photo) "Argon
ant" is most definitely not "Argon
aut", as the ancient brickwork just to the right of the sign indicates is the name of the building.
I have two theories:
1) Rather than risk a copyright fight with booze giants Argonaut Liquor just down the road, the owners decided that no one would notice/care if they were one letter off
2) The store is in fact names after some sort of wingless insect made entirely of a noble gas (argon + ant).
I guess only time (or a phone call) will tell.
Tell me your own theories in the comments section below.
