an ocean's waves
awakening an abandoned beach
leaving behind a pearl
tucked secretly in its shell
anticipating discovery

I imagine life's journey
a collage of
aspirations ... aims ... near misses
a refusal to surrender to
purgatory on a merry go round of
plastic animals

I imagine failure
succumbing to
paralyzing fears ... those
constant flickers of doubt
pulsing time with the metronome

I imagine success
a kaleidoscope of
brightly colored pieces
reflecting sun's light
shattered attempts now bound in design
and, with every turn
something different
something unique
